This multi-family housing project in San Francisco’s SOMA neighborhood will provide a landscaped public mews in a community with a dire need for open space. The mews will feature a cafe, pedestrian gathering areas and generous amounts of new trees and planting. A lively paving pattern, inspired by an Ellsworth Kelly painting, emphasizes the connections to the adjacent residences, providing a sense of ownership to these residents.

The second level courtyard features a covered overlook, which is designed to be a “front porch” for the new community. With its suspended seating and lighting, and synthetic turf mound, it will provide a dramatic and playful connection to the neighborhood. This project is currently in construction.
